A JOURNEY THAT BEGAN AT IOWA

On Sunday 27 December, 2020, we had an interesting online program. Our guest was Dr Harshad Parekh who taught in various Krishnamurti schools for 28 years before retiring in 2007. Dr Parekh went to the United States for the first time in 1969 to study for a master’s degree in Electrical Engineering at Iowa State University. One day, as he was passing by the campus bookshop at Iowa State University, he saw a book of J Krishnamurti, “The Flight of the Eagle”, on display. Reading the book was a turning point and led Dr Parekh to opt for a life as educator in Krishnamurti schools. The program was an exploration of not just one person’s journey as an educator but the larger issues of the intent of education and the possible role of right education in the transformation of human consciousness.

In conversation with Dr Parekh in the program was Sudeshna Sinha, a school teacher with considerable experience of teaching in various schools. She also has a deep interest in J Krishnamurti and his vision of education.
