Krishnamurti Foundation was founded in 1969 by Jiddu Krishnamurti (1895-1986) who is acknowledged as one of the most profound philosophical and spiritual figures of the 20th century. He claimed no allegiance to any nationality or religion and was bound by no tradition. His purpose was to set humankind unconditionally free from the destructive limitations of a conditioned mind.
The mission of the Foundation in India is to preserve and disseminate the teachings of J Krishnamurti. It does this through a variety of different programs. These include publishing divisions, various schools (including Rishi Valley, Bangalore, Chennai, Varanasi, Sahyadri near Pune), residential seminars exploring topics in the teachings through dialogues and the opportunity to use the Foundation’s retreat centres for contemplation and study. The Foundation is also involved in various rural education and health initiatives at Rishi Valley and Varanasi.
Our study centre in Kolkata is doing its bit too in the larger effort. We have a library which provides the opportunity for self-study through a vast collection of books and videos. The Kolkata Centre also facilitates group dialogues and retreats which enable inquiry into various aspects of life in the light of Krishnamurti’s teachings. The Centre also participates in book fairs so that books can reach out to the general public. Our efforts to translate the books of J Krishnamurti into Bengali are aimed at reaching out to more and more people in West Bengal.
Everything that we try to do here in Kolkata is with the purpose of communicating the teachings of J Krishnamurti. Our ability to do so is made possible by the goodwill of generous donors. Centres such as ours depend on donations from well-wishers to ensure that we can continue our efforts. For information, donations will be exempt from income tax u/s 80G and due certification will be issued. All donations are welcome.
