INNOCENCE AND THE NEW MIND

Some days do bring a lot of cheer. I got a call from a young boy. He is from Patna. I remember him from some of the zoom sessions organised by our J Krishnamurti Study Centre to discuss the enormous beauty of Krishnamurti’s insights. Even at the age of around 16 or so, his questions were always serious.

I remember he had a tough time joining the sessions. “I don’t have my own phone and I have to plead with my sister to lend her phone to me for joining the zoom session”, he said. He was a good student and after passing school, applied to an institute in Orissa. He got admission at IISER (Indian Institute of Science Education and Research), Berhampur and he was most excited. He phoned me then and told me about the beauty of the place. “I have my own room, sir”, he said with excitement.

He phoned to say that he has started a small J Krishnamurti Study Group with close friends and they meet every Saturday. He said recently the group took up the text of a discussion that J Krishnamurti had with students at Rishi Valley School. “I encourage friends to get involved and imagine that they are the students in dialogue.” He was a happy young man now. “Sir, I feel very happy now.”. He added that the faculty is excellent and also very participative. Referring to one of the faculty, he said: “Ma’am is keen to explore meditation by the nearby seaside.”

I promised to keep in touch and said that we would have one zoom session with him and friends. Thus ended some lovely moments of catching up with an innocent young man who is keen to explore the beauty of Krishnamurti’s insights. The young man perhaps saw, even if faintly, that the present human crisis is not just what we perceive outwardly in society; it really lies in the unconscious, deep within oneself.

Well done, young man! The new mind in the making.
