Thanks to friends who participated in our sharing and learning dialogue on zoom on 25 September. Special thanks to our friend Chaitanya Nagar who facilitated the dialogue. The theme for the dialogue was ‘The Mirror Of Relationship’. Chaitanya started things off quite beautifully by sharing a few lines in Hindi from the poet Krishna Behari Noor.
‘Chahey soney ke frame mein jhar do
Aina jhoot bolta hi nahin
Sach ghatey ya badhey to sach na rahey
Jhoot ki to koi intehan hi nahin’
Approximate English translation
Even if you put the mirror in a gold frame
The mirror does not lie
If truth decreases or increases, it ceases to be truth
But there is no such test for lies!
Our dialogue then explored the theme of relationship and how it can reveal so much about ourselves provided we are willing to and able to see clearly what the ‘mirror’ reveals. Do we see clearly what the ‘mirror’ tells us? Is the ‘mirror’ clean so as to enable seeing without distortion? An interesting exploration. We hope to put up the dialogue on you tube and that may enable all of us to reflect. Meanwhile, I came across a short 7 minute video clip this morning (Observation without distortion) which you may find interesting in the context of our dialogue. Here is the link.
Ending with an interesting quote which may also have some relevance to the dialogue we had on Sunday 25 September. Does this roughly correspond to what a ‘clean mirror’ is all about? Food for thought.
”When there is only the organism without the self, then perception, both visual and non-visual, can never be distorted. There is then only seeing ‘what is’.
Let us keep the dialogue going. It does not always need a physical get together or an online get together to have a dialogue. It is ongoing. Indeed, quiet reflection and spontaneous one to one conversations may often be an unobtrusive and valuable part of dialogue.
